Snowhotel Kirkenes, hotel in Kirkenes

Surrounded by the Arctic wilderness, Snowhotel Kirkenes stands as a testament to innovation and adventure, offering an unforgettable experience year-round.

This property is absolutely amazing. The staff, the view & the activities;all kept us engaged for the 1 night stay my sister & I did in April 2024. The ladies at the reception (Nikolina, Editha & Anna) are helpful, friendly & go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. The staff that gets the activities done are super friendly as well. We did Husky ride & Snow mobile. The experience was a memorable one. 100% likely to return & experience the property in every season that Kirkenes has to offer.

Scandic Kirkenes, hotel in Kirkenes

This hotel is 150 metres from Dr. Wessels gate pedestrian street and 2 km from the Hurtigruten Cruise Ship Terminal. It offers free WiFi and a relaxation department.

It is a nice hotel of a known chain in Norway. We knew what we can expect. It was a very nice breakfast, possibility to use a pool and sauna. There is a gym, but we didn't use it this time. Walking distance to the Hurtigrutten. Bus stop just in front if you are travelling to the airport.

Thanasis, my host, made the trip special. He could not have been more helpful. The accommodation was super and was everything as described. The town itself had everything needed and the township was great to walk around. A tip for those arriving by plane...book a taxi to Kirkenes in advance. It was a blizzard when I arrived and all the taxis were taken. It was freezing and I was lucky that a driver called a taxi. for me or I might still be there. Thanasis drove me back to the airport upon my departure as the bus wasn't timed to coordinate with the plane departure time. An excellent host! I missed the Northern Lights but Thanasis sent me a photograph of them the following night. My timing was off by one night.

Kirkenes is a small pleasant town with few sights but the Grenselandmuseet is well worth a visit. The location is recommended for viewing the Northern Lights but it was too cloudy during our visit (Nov). There are a few restaurants in the centre, the most popular being the Ritz with very good pizzas.

It is the area around Kirkenes that is the main attraction. We travelled to Grensa Jacobselv beach which was beautiful and sunny on the day we visited, same for Ovre Pasvik National Park which was breathtakinlgy beautiful. Both are quite a drive from Kirkenes though and we chose the town to learn about the history from WWII, the hotel had a pool (although it was not operational!!) and as the airport was there. Next time we would definitely go for a cabin in the woods and see the reindeer up close. In town we ate at Surf n Turf which was decent, waiter had a sense of humour and good was quite good. Nothing spectacular but good enough, depends what you like. The other place we ate in town was Ritz, which was an excellent pizza and we would recommend it for the food but was pricey compared to other towns in Norway; little other choice though. Most other places were closed we assumed due to no tourists, so not worth it or maybe worse closed down following Covid downturn. The central part of town had the feeling of needing a boost from its Covid slumber. We loved the area though and will come back, armed with better knowledge than first-timers.

We stayed 5 days, much longer than most visitors because we wanted to maximize the chance to see the northern lights. As it turned out, 4 nights were cloudy and on the last night, the skies cleared a little and being at Sollia and having trekked into the countryside up the hill from the lodge, gave us the best chance to view the lights, just a 10 minute walk from our room. There were enough activities in kirkenes to keep us amused for 5 days - dog sledding with Birk's (here you're the driver of the sleds), king crab expedition and you drive yourself there on the frozen Barents Sea, the Andersgrotta the underground bunker was very interesting, hiking in the Taiga, and we had to have our daily coffee at Johnny's Lunch Cafe in Kirkenes. Johnny is an Italian and makes coffee the only acceptable way with an Italian Expresso machine. Thank heavens for Johnny's! Coffee in Kirkenes mostly comes out of cafeteria type/press the button coffee.

Wonderful welcome from a very caring couple. .walking distance from Hurtigruten/havila port. Lovely wooden house. Felt like home from home. Very clean.Everything provided for long or short stay. Even dishwasher and washing machine. Walking distance to town. Owners told me when the Northern Lights were visible, so I could run out and see. Tlanassis also drove me to Border and Snow Hotel. I would absolutely love to stay there again. Thank you, both..You deserve to do well, and I'm sure that you will.

The cabins are beautiful and very clean with great landscape. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. The snowhotel rooms are unique attraction that is worth to visit and see. We ordered one snow room for our boys that thought to try to sleep in the snowhotel but after visiting the room they decided that it was too cold for them so we asked to change our reservation and they were willing to change it to another cabin. We highly appreciated their flexibility.

A once in a lifetime experience!! I dont like the cold at_all but you really can't feel it with the sleeping bags provided! The facilities were amazing....really high class. The food was fantastic and the staff adapted the menu for us as we don't eat fish. We took the snowmobile tour to find the northern lights which we did, it was overall the best way we could have celebrated my husbands 40th. Such a good time, can't fault it at all! Thank you so much

Having read the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by our accommodation. Our room opened directly off the lobby, and although small, was warm and comfortable, with perfectly laundered bedding. The lobby contained a coffee machine and microwave, and there was a supermarket on the square, as well as a number of restaurants (we can recommend the Bangkok). The location was very central, directly opposite the Scandic and next to the local taxi depot.

This is a 4* Hotel offering the standards you expect in Norway. Sparkling clean, comfortable room with at least one English channel, abundant and various breakfast, good restaurant, professional staff, splendid location. It is a perfect option for a night before or after cruise. I have noticed that despite very good reviews, Thon Hotels don't get high scores(both in Bergen and Kirkenes). Definitely this Hotel deserves a higher score than 8.6.

Perfect located, close to the center and different attractions in the city. Very friendly and helpful host. Apartment is spacious, rooms are big enough and clean. The breakfast was left in the frige, bread, fruits, eggs, juice, hams, cheese. really generous and helpful. the host Roar answers the message very fast every time I asked. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Kirkenes. Highly recommended.

This is a very special place. In winter, you have the ice rooms and lots of snow activities. But now, in the golden autumn, all is different. You have your own place under the trees, all is calm, you get excellent food, and when you step out your door in the night you see the Northern lights.

Convenient restaurant onsite (especially when it was -20C outside!) and the food was good. Room was average size with good light and heating. Bathroom was good. This hotel is a exactly what it says - good mid-of-the-road standard for an overnight stay. Close walk to everything.
